David vs. Goliath

In the footsteps of giants and biblical heros in the Judean Lowlands (Shefelah)

The Judean Lowlands (Shefelah) lie above Tel Aviv and below Jerusalem in the ancient borderlands between Judan and the Philistines. Here is where Sampson lived and fought, where David defeated Goliath, the Bar Kochva revels dug their secret hideouts into the hillsides, and the IDF created a secret “Burma Road” in the battle for Jerusalem in 1948.

This tour includes a stunning view of the Elah Valley, where David defeated Goliath, a crawl in Bar-Kochva rebel caves, and a visit to the magnificent bell-caves of Beit Guvrin, with an option to join an active archeological dig at ‘Dig for a Day.’ We can also drive along the “Burma Road,” and visit the Biblical Museum of Natural History in Beit Shemesh.

We will drive about one hour to Beit Guvrin, where we will see the bell-caves and have the option (booked in advance) of joining an active archeological dig! Then we will drive back in the direction of Beit Shemesh and visit Bar Kochva rebel caves and Tel Azeka, where we can overlook the site where David fought Goliath.

In the Beit Shemesh area there are many options for lunch, from full meat meals, to cafes, to falafel. Your choice.

After lunch we will visit the Biblical Museum of Natural History where we will see the animals of the land of the Bible up close and learn all about them, including how to identify the teeth of a kosher animal!
