The Tombs of the Matriarchs and Patriarchs in Hebron and Rachel's Tomb

Hebron is home to the tombs of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah Rebeccah and Leah.  We will start the day with an hour long drive through the heartland of Judea, ending at the Tomb of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs in Hebron. We will read about Abraham’s presence there, and the first purchase of land by the Jewish people in the Land of Israel.

Then we will explore the tomb complex, the Jewish enclave in Hebron, and (time allowing) the archeological site of the ancient city of Hebron.

We will then drive back to Jerusalem, but just before getting you back to your hotel we will stop to visit the one matriarch not buried in Hebron, at the Tomb of Rachel.

In Hebron we will visit the graves of the Matriarchs and Patriarchs in the Machpelah tomb structure built by Herod the Great.

Time allowing we will then drive up the hill to see the archeological ruins of the ancient city of Hebron, where Abraham must have visited, where Caleb visited as a ‘spy,’ and where King David first ruled as king.
